All 14 of Knowsley Council’s car parks have been awarded the ‘Park Mark’ Safer Parking Award.
The car parks were awarded the prestigious accolade in June last year and work has been on-going to ensure the high standards and stringent measures have been maintained. An assessment of the car parks took place last month resulting in all car parks successfully meeting the required standards.
The scheme which is promoted by the Association of the Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and managed by the British Parking Association, is intended to show visitors a commitment to reduce both criminal activity and the fear of crime.
Steve Agger, Assistant Chief Executive for Crime and Disorder at Knowsley Council, commented “I am delighted that once again, our car parks have achieved the ‘Park Mark’ award. This award underpins our continued focus to improve the safety in our car parks, and our commitment to reducing crime within the Borough.”
To meet the award, each car park is independently assessed by the Police Crime Prevention Officers to show the facility is properly managed, maintained and has appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness – all of which contribute to reducing the opportunity for crime.
Customers who use the ‘Park Mark’ accredited car parks can be confident that measures are in place to deter criminal activity and create a safer environment for both them and the vehicle.
Councillor Graham Morgan, Knowsley Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development added: “The management of our car parks is part of the ongoing development and regeneration of Knowsley’s town centres. We want to encourage more people to visit the town centres and providing safe car parking is an important factor in doing this.”
