Halewood Tae Kwon-Do's recent success at the 2011 Welsh Championships, held in Cardiff on 22nd May. 12 Halewood fighters travelled down to represent the club, earning 14 medals overall – 4 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze.
Our new 2011 champions include Lauren Butler (9) and Maira Malik (13), who took gold after beating all their opponents in the blue belt girls peewee and lightweight sparring divisions. Maira and Lauren later teamed up with Faye Clifton (11) for the team sparring event, where they each won a silver medal.
12-year-old twins Ethan and Josh Calland - who only achieved their black belts in April - put up a determined fight in the black belt boys' team sparring event, both achieving a silver medal.
Adam Butler (13) and Max Cunnah (10) both fought well to achieve bronze in their individual sparring categories.
The senior students were also successful, with Eddie Calland (42) winning some tough bouts to take gold in red belt sparring, despite also gaining a black eye! Simon Clifton (35) won bronze in the blue belt sparring event, while Stef Davies (29) won gold for ladies black belt patterns and bronze for individual sparring.
