Knowsley Housing Trust’s (KHT) ‘eco’ officer has made it into the final of awards celebrating sustainable housing.
Anthony Jarvis, Social Responsibility Support Coordinator, is shortlisted in the Green Social Housing Champion of the Year category in the Sustainable Housing Awards 2011, organised by Inside Housing magazine and its sister publication Sustainable Housing, for his work in KHT communities.
He works to educate tenants on what they can do to save energy around the home, and save money on their bills in the process.
Anthony said: “The scheme has really taken off and it is exciting to see a growing enthusiasm for all things ‘green’.
“It is an honour to be nominated in the awards and we hope our experiences will inspire others to get creative with eco initiatives.”
‘Save Money, Save Energy’ offers free home energy audits and advice on different energy tariffs and switching tariffs and providers. KHT has so far carried out 260 home energy audits with a predicted average saving of £100.
It has been so successful it has been adopted by another housing organisation with similar results.
Anthony has promoted his energy efficiency message in a variety of ways, including writing articles in KHT publications, giving talks to local schools, attending community events and even purchasing an ‘energy bike’ to demonstrate how much energy is needed to power a radio or LED light.
The Sustainable Housing Awards focus on the best ‘green’ social housing projects constructed in the UK, and the organisations responsible for them. The trophies will be presented at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane on Friday 21st October.
Nick Duxbury, Editor of Sustainable Magazine said: “Now in their fourth year, the Sustainable Housing awards 2011 have, once again, been inundated with entries from the leading green organisations featuring the most innovative and impressive projects in the UK.
“It is a fantastic achievement for Knowsley Housing Trust to be shortlisted in the face of such fierce competition. We are thrilled to be able to host the awards ceremony that recognises the work of the housing sector’s sustainable pioneers.”
