An exciting new development for young people in Knowsley has opened its doors last Friday the 28th October.
The £5m OurPlace youth facility, on Longview Drive in Huyton, has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund. It has been developed by young people for young people, aged 13 to 19 years.
The Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Christina O’Hare, today officially launched the events programme which will take place at OurPlace.
Throughout the day, a selection of activities will be showcased, from 3.30pm until 9.30pm, including cheerleading, dance performances, martial arts, aromatherapy, DJ workshops, wheelchair basketball, comedy workshops, plus much more!
OurPlace includes a media suite, café, chill-out area, music, arts and sports spaces, advice and wellbeing services, an outdoor multi-use games area and a skate / BMX ramp park.
Georgina Connolly from the OurPlace Forum, aged 17 years from Whiston, added, “I have really enjoyed this experience and learning new things whilst working on the OurPlace Forum. I am looking forward to using the skate park and using the media suite, which will really help with my college work. I can’t wait to take part in the fantastic range of activities, including the comedy workshops, all in such a safe and relaxing environment just for young people like myself.”
As well as being able to enjoy the facilities and activities on offer, young people can also get involved in volunteering opportunities to help run OurPlace. To find out more about OurPlace or volunteering opportunities, call 0151 443 5323.
