The opening of the new Parry’s supermarket at the heart of Stockbridge Village has been celebrated by the local community.
Residents of all ages turned out for a fun filled community event, with Radio City’s Simon Ross providing the soundtrack.
As part of the celebrations, Christ the King Centre for Learning and The Elms School were presented with cheques for £1,000. Both schools had been chosen as beneficiaries of the store’s ‘Making a Difference Locally’ charity that seeks to contribute to good causes and establish a commitment to support the local community.
Stockbridge ward councillor Bill Weightman said: “The opening of Parry’s is a real asset for the local community and provides a high quality retail experience which is unrivalled in the area. I am really pleased to see it open to the public and I’m sure local residents were glad to see the doors open on this brand new supermarket.
“Once this regeneration project is completed, Stockbridge Village centre will have been completely transformed and will provide the top class facilities that the local community deserve.”
The regeneration project, being led by Knowsley Council, also includes a new primary school, children’s centre, library, swimming pool, gym and leisure facilities, police access point and multi-use games area.
Business owner, Dave Parry, who is local to the area said: “We see ourselves as a part of the local community and we felt it was important to officially launch the new store with a fun event for all our customers and local residents.
“We are proud to be part of this major transformation and also to be able to support our local schools.”
The new Parry’s supermarket includes a new butchery and hot & cold deli counter. In addition a professional catering service is also now available. Opening hours have been extended in the evenings and on Sundays and a free home delivery service is also on offer.
Pupils from Christ the King receive the cheque, which will help to upgrade some of their ICT equipment. Pupils pictured with Simon Ross (left), Dave Parry (centre) and Cllr Bill Weightman and Cllr Dennis Baum (right).
