GB paralympians David Weir and Shelly Woods are set for success at the Games following wins at a key athletics event in Knowsley.
Both athletes won the 400 metres and 1500 metres events in their sections at the UK’s Disability Athletics Grand Prix in Kirkby Sports College.
Commentators at the scene said their performances missed breaking the current world records because of strong winds on the day.
Weir and Woods were both Virgin London Marathon winners on the road in April and were said to be pleased with their performances at Kirkby.
The UK Disability Athletics Grand Prix is a key international competition and one of the final chances for athletes to qualify for the London 2012 games.
It attracts international stars - David Weir is one Great Britain’s top wheelchair racers, who won 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Hundreds of people turned out for the event which is free and is a chance to see many of the Paralympians who’ll be at the London Games.

Events like this are significant in encouraging PWDs that there is still more to life despite the hindrances. They sometimes tend to lose hope and would stay at home and think negatively all day. They are being defeated by the situation, which should not be. There are actually a lot of things to do for them like this one. They should go out and live their life and never let anything block their way, not even paralysis. And they should not worry about going to places anymore because there are already vehicles that are designed for them.
