Families in Knowsley will be able to celebrate Christmas in their own brand new homes after a major new development in Knowsley was completed early.
The first homes to be built in the borough under the 2011-2015 National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP) are now completed at Bracknell Avenue in Kirkby and the keys have been handed to the tenants.
Christina Callaghan is one of the first tenants of Bracknell Avenue with her husband Paul, daughter Olivia, 15, and six-year-old son Gabriel.
The original completion date for the development was late December but Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) has finished the project ahead of schedule and just in time for Christmas.
Christina, 43, said: “Our new home is fantastic. It is much more spacious than where we were previously living and a much quieter area.
KHT, part of the First Ark Group, was awarded £5m from the Homes and Communities Agency in the 2011/2015 National Affordable Housing Programme.
The £737,000 project, working with Knowsley-based contractor Fairtree Homes, has provided six new four and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent and is the first KHT new build to be finished with the latest round of NAHP funding.
The £5m NAHP funding will be used to build 229 homes across Knowsley from now until 2015 providing much needed new homes for the people of Knowsley.
Ian Thomson, KHT Executive Director of Assets, said: “We are very pleased to be able to deliver this development ahead of schedule so these families can relax in their new homes for Christmas.
“We will continue to roll out the National Affordable Housing Programme in Knowsley and completing the first development is a significant milestone.
“This investment will offer hundreds of families the chance of a home and will help revitalise communities, providing a better housing offer for years to come.
