Much-needed new homes have been created from run-down blocks of flats in Kirkby.
The flats in Kirkby Row and Kenbury Close have undergone a complete renovation to transform them into four, three bedroom comfortable family homes.
A further block at Overton Close has been completely renovated but kept as four separate flats.
Knowsley Housing Trust, part of the First Ark Group, carried out the work which totalled around £500,000.
The properties have been newly fitted out with improved insulation and new windows and doors, the plumbing and electrics have been overhauled and a new roof installed. Some minor structural alterations were also needed and all were fully redecorated throughout.
Ian Thomson, KHT Executive Director of Asset Management, said: “We have been able to take these unpopular properties that were empty for some time and turn them into desirable, modern homes that are much needed in the area while at the same time eliminating a target for anti social behaviour.
“As well as building new properties, we must get the most out of our existing homes to make sure we can continue to meet housing needs in Knowsley. Projects like this are very important in our ongoing drive to create vibrant, successful communities.”
The work is the first part of a bigger project to convert or renovate six blocks in total. Five will be converted into three-bedroom houses.
Other blocks in the project are on Marnwood Road, Copthorne, Coton Walk, Jarrett Road, Kenbury Close and Overton Close.
Nicola Shrimpton, 30, has moved into a newly-renovated three-bedroom home in Kirkby Row with her husband and two young daughters.
She had been living in a private rented property in Kirkby, but rent increases and problems getting repairs carried out meant she had to look for alternative accommodation.
Nicola said: “Our new home is so much better for my family, my little girls are very happy here. We had been struggling with rising rents but now it is more affordable and we know repairs will be carried out when needed.
“We have a front garden now and the back garden is more secure, which gives great peace of mind with young children.
“I grew up in Kirkby so it is fantastic that I have been able to stay in the area around my friends and family.”
