Residents in Knowsley will be able to get advice on changes to benefit payments at special events next week.
Knowsley Housing Trust will be taking a Benefits Roadshow out to the streets of Kirkby and Huyton where residents can speak to advisors and get more information on welfare reform and how it might affect the support they receive.
Changes due this year include the switch to Universal Credit, benefit caps and changes to disability living allowance, incapacity benefits and employment support allowance. The first to be introduced will be the ‘Bedroom Tax’ in April, which could affect more than 3,000 KHT tenants.
The ‘Bedroom Tax’ aims to address under-occupancy by reducing the housing benefit to households with one or more spare bedroom.
KHT is encouraging residents to prepare for the changes now to manage their budgets and make sure they don’t run into financial trouble and put their home at risk.
The Roadshow will be visiting:
- Kirkby town centre
Tuesday 19th February 2013 - 10am-3.30pm
- Huyton town centre
Wednesday 20th February 2013 - 10am -3.30pm
KHT has also produced an informative video about welfare reform. The video and further information can be found at www.k-h-t.org.
