A team of talented young footballers from Knowsley is heading for Texas USA to take part in the Dallas Cup.
Knowsley Council has been sending a team to the International Youth Football Tournament there since 1991.
Its gives the young people the chance to see a completely different way of life and soccer coaches from American universities use it as a recruiting ground.
The council’s involvement has led to a number of Knowsley players being offered University scholarships in America.
The team will play matches in New York and Georgetown in Texas before heading to Dallas.
The boys have to meet some of the cost of the trip themselves and it’s also sponsored by local companies.
There was an official send off for the team at the Huyton Civic Suite where Knowsley’s Mayor Cllr Norman Hogg wished them well.
Cllr Hogg said: “This is a great opportunity for these talented young footballers.
“It’s great to see their enthusiasm and determination to do well out there.
“A trip like this broadens their horizons and who knows – maybe even leads to a whole different career path for some of them.”
