The UK’s biggest free music festival comes to Knowsley on Friday, 12 July.
Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park in Huyton will host Knowsley Summer Jam, a flagship event as part of Our Big Gig which will see more than 200,000 people attend 330 free music events across the UK.
Knowsley Summer Jam will showcase 26 local bands, musicians, singers and dancers in a non-stop four hour gig. The headline act is Liverpool’s KOF.
The gig has been organised by John Riley, who is a member of the Stockbridge Village based Enchord music group. He developed the programme with support from his Enchord members, as well as Knowsley Council’s Leisure and Culture Development team.
Knowsley Summer Jam is free and has something to keep the whole family entertained. The drop-in event takes place between 6pm and 10pm. Please note the gig is standing only.
As well as KOF, other artists include Eddie Mac, Sophia Yousef, John Riley, Hayli Kincade, Aydoe, Dominic Dunn, Jay Devine, Joe Maddocks, Streetfeet Dance, Fluid Dance, plus many more.
Summer Jam is part of the government’s Olympic legacy commitment to reconnect communities. It is funded by the Department for Communities Local Government (with activities co-ordinated by Superact) and Arts Council England.
Katharine Lane, Delivery Director at Superact said “All of us here at Superact have been overwhelmed by the way communities up and down the country have united to host over 330 Our Big Gig events. From castles to libraries, barges to palaces, we have some amazing venues hosting a wonderfully diverse range of music.”
Communities Minister Don Foster said “This is going to be a fantastic long weekend of free music bringing people of all backgrounds and communities together and I encourage everyone to get involved in a local event. And why not invite your neighbours too whilst you’re at it?”
