One of Knowsley’s 12 Green Flag parks could be named the nation’s favourite in a national poll.
Voting in the annual People's Choice Award, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, is now open - giving the public the power to decide which one of the nation’s 1,448 Green Flag parks and green spaces should be named park of the year with an online poll.
Success in the latest Green Flag awards means that Knowsley now boasts award winning parks across the borough. Both Eaton Street Park in Prescot and The Pasture in Cronton have been awarded new Green Flags, bringing the total number of Knowsley parks with the prestigious award to 12 – double the number just five years ago.
Knowsley’s other Green Flag parks are Jubilee Park, McGoldrick Park, Sawpit Park, King George V Playing Fields and Court Hey Park in Huyton, as well as St Chad’s Gardens and Millbrook Park Millennium Green in Kirkby, Halewood Park and Henley Park, Whiston. The impressive gardens at Fox’s Bank Cemetery in Whiston have also earned the graveyard Green Flag status.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Community and Culture: said: “Knowsley boasts some exceptional parks and green spaces, so we would like to ask Knowsley residents to vote for their favourite and give it the national recognition it deserves.”
Paul Todd, Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager said: "Our judges have decided on this year's winners of the coveted Green Flag Award but the public now have the opportunity to decide which park or green space deserves The People's Choice Award.”
The vote will close at midday on 1st October and the winner of the 2013 People’s Choice will be announced on 9th October at a ceremony in London.
The Green Flag Award was first launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country. It is the national standard for parks and recognises well managed, high quality sites with community involvement.
All Green Flag Award-winning parks and green spaces are entered into the annual People’s Choice Award vote, which last year saw thousands of votes recorded and resulted in the crowning of Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets as the People’s Choice.
