Farsley completed a league double over Prescot Cables with this comprehensive victory at Hope Street.
Cables Manager Dave Powell made one change from the team which had drawn at Darlington last week, Alex McMillan replacing the suspended Carl Furlong.
Farsley kicked off playing towards the Hope Street End. Connor McCarthy was soon in action breaking down the right, his cross being headed out for a corner kick. The corner taken by Hoctor was headed out for another corner which was cleared by the Farsley defence. Farsley replied with Ryan Serrant bursting down the left side, his low cross being well held by Cables keeper Adam Reid.
A back header from Ged Murphy was chased by Ellington but Reid was first to the ball. Reid’s long clearance was chased by McCarthy but the Farsley defence cleared the danger. Farsley were then awarded a free kick for a foul just inside the Cables half. The free kick taken by Dempsey was punched clear by Reid.
It was all Farsley at this stage of the game and Bannister fouled Savory on the edge of the box, conceding another free kick in a dangerous position. Miller took the free kick lifting his shot high over the bar.
After 22 minutes, Farsley took the lead. Hardy and Hull linked up well down the right, James slotting home Hull’s low cross from 5 yards out. Cables responded with an attack down the right side, McCarthy being fouled on the edge of the box. Doran took the free kick, for Cables chipping the ball over the Farsley defensive wall but unfortunately over the bar.
This respite was short lived as Farsley mounted another attack, Hull shooting wide. From the goal kick, the ball was picked up by Serrant whose deep cross was headed wide by Savory who was proving to be anything but tasty for the Cables defence.
Cables almost snatched an equaliser just before half time when Rob Doran’s goal bound shot from the edge of the box was deflected wide for a corner.
Cables started the second half on the offensive, a long ball by Lynch for McCarthy being headed clear as far as Rob Doran who hit his shot over the bar. Doran then weaved his way into the penalty area from the right, gliding past several defenders before shooting wide of the far post.
A heavy down pour then erupted over the ground for about 20 minutes making conditions difficult for both sides. The persistent Savory almost snatched a second goal for Farsley, his header being cleared at the post for a corner. On 66 minutes Farsley increased their lead when Ellington broke down the left and crossed hard and low for Savoury to score unmarked at the far post.
Cables tried in vain to get back in the game and a long ball for Doran was intercepted by Miller, then a cross by McCarthy was headed clear. Adam Reid was then brought into action pushing Ellington’s shot away for a corner. From the corner Miller headed over for Farsley.
Cables made two substitutions, Menagh and Kusaloka replacing McMillan and Hoctor. Farsley threatened again when after good work from Young and Priestley, Daley fired wide. Priestley then hit the angle of the post and bar from Hull’s cross.
Cables made their final substitution, Ashurst replacing Benn. Farsley wrapped the scoring up on 88 minutes when Reid under pressure from Priestley sent his clearance straight to Bambrook on the edge of the penalty area who slotted the ball neatly into the far corner of the net.
