EVO-STIK DIVISON ONE NORTH SATURDAY 1ST MARCH 2014
Prescot Cables were comprehensively beaten by Ramsbottom United at Hope Street. Ramsbottom scored all their goals in a first half which they dominated and although Cables improved in the second half they failed to create a serious goal scoring opportunity.
Manager Dave Powell made two changes from the side which had drawn at Ossett Albion the previous week, Jarrett and Kusaloka replacing Coyle and the injured Connor McCarthy.
Cables kicked off playing towards the park end and were soon on the attack, the ball being played through to Robinson but he was adjudged offside. The resulting free kick taken by Ramsbottom keeper Shenton was too long and went out of play. Phil Dean was next on the attack for Ramsbottom cutting in from the left but he was tackled by Haynes. Cables produced the first scoring chance, Jordan Shirley’s shot from the edge of the box being comfortably taken by Shenton.
Dean was proving dangerous down the left side for Ramsbottom and he had a shot blocked by the Cables defence. Hulme and Gaskell then linked up down the right but Haynes cleared the danger heading out for a corner. The corner taken by Dean was flicked across goal by Hulme to Stopforth at the far post who headed over the bar. It was all Ramsbottom at this stage of the game, and from a free kick on the left taken by Burton, Spencer’s shot was flicked over the bar by Mottram for a corner. From the corner Stopforth headed on for Priestley who headed wide.
Cables tried to get back into the game and a shot by Bannister from the edge of the box was just wide of the target. Spencer was proving to be a handful for the Cables defence and he had a shot blocked by Bannister for a corner. From the corner taken by Spencer, the ball was cleared as far as the edge of the penalty area where Scott Burton was waiting to fire home to put Ramsbottom 3-0 ahead on 43 minutes.
The second half began in much the same vein as the first half with Ramsbottom on the attack. Gaskell had the ball in the Cables net again on 51 minutes only for it to be ruled out for off side. Cables made their first change, Pinto-Vierra replacing Robinson. Balazs made a good run down the left for Cables playing the ball to Pinto-Vierra whose cross for Kusaloka was taken by Shenton.
Spencer was soon on the attack again for Ramsbottom linking up with Gaskell and Pilkington and finishing the move with a shot just past the far post. Jordan Shirley then produced a fine long ball for Isaac Kusolaka but the Ramsbottom defence managed to intercept it and clear the danger. Gaskell then had a great chance to complete his hat trick when he found himself clear with only the keeper to beat but Mottram managed to take the ball from him as he tried to go round him.
Cables made their second change on 72 minutes, Coyle replacing Bannister. Coyle was soon in action heading on a free kick for Kusaloka whose overhead kick was blocked by the Ramsbottom defence. Gaskell had another opportunity to complete his hat trick when he received the ball from Green but his shot was well saved by Mottram. Mottram then did well taking a cross from Burton intended for Gaskell at the far post. Green then had an opportunity to increase Ramsbottom’s tally but shot straight at Mottram.
