A boy of 13 has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault, after a Halewood schoolgirl was left with two black eyes and a suspected broken nose.
The shocking incident comes the same week that Knowsley Council launched its Knowsley Against Racism Campaign to make the Borough a safe place for people of all ethnic backgrounds.
Alaina McCormick, 15, whose mother is Indian, claimed to be the victim of a racist attack. She is eager to return to her GCSE studies at Halewood College (pictured), despite still suffering from her injuries.
Alaina's parents told media she had been subjected to a week of torment by bullies, whose abuse became so bad that Alaina had to be escorted to and from lessons by a member of staff. The latest incident took place on a corridor earlier this week.
The school confirmed that the two children involved had been temporarily suspended.
Deputy Head Teacher Kevin McDermott said, "We have made it clear to our pupils that we will absolutely not tolerate any incidents of bullying, particularly racist bullying.
"We make the students aware that racist bullying is a criminal offence and one that will be taken extremely seriously.
"We will also work with these young people to ensure that this sort of intolerance is stamped out."
A Council spokesperson said Halewood College was "one of the leading schools in Knowsley for its tough stance on bullying."
The pupil suspected of the attack has been released from police custody on bail.
