Liverpool football legend Phil Thompson will officially open the brand-new Tower Hill Primary Care and Community Resource Centre in Kirkby this Thursday.
The purpose-built centre is part of a state-of-the-art £6 million community complex, designed to bring vital health, community, nursery and sports facilities to the heart of the community. Knowsley Council has worked with Knowsley Primary Care Trust to build the centre.
Health facilities include GP and dental surgeries, a pharmacy, baby clinics, speech and language therapy and family planning clinics.
The Community Centre offers activities for young and old, including a youth club and a venue for community groups to meet. A Library Info Point offers electronic access to a range of health information and a selection of books on health-related issues.
The complex also boasts the most modern, floodlit synthetic pitches in Knowsley, funded by a £750,000 investment by Sport England and Knowsley Council.
Anita Marsland, KPCT Chief Executive, said: "We have made significant strides in modernising services in Knowsley through the LIFT building projects and this new centre will enable the people of Tower Hill to access the very best health and social care services and facilities."
John Bell, of Knowsley Council, added: "The new community centre is a first class facility for the Tower Hill Community and the integration with the health and social care facilities has been planned to create a one-stop approach to healthy living. The community centre and the outdoor pitches will provide new opportunities for active recreation for people of all ages and abilities."
The Primary Care and Community Resource Centre has been built with funding from the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT). The LIFT building programme is a vehicle for improving and developing frontline primary and community care facilities.
