Results weekend of 29th July
St. Helens Recs 1st XI played hosts to league newcomers Southport Trinity on Saturday. Trinity won the toss and put Recs in to bat, after losing an early wicket Lyon was the next man out for a hard earned 49 with the score on 82 for 2.
Ali and Rehman took the score to 120 before Ali was out for 36. No batsman shone out but Rehman (38), Critchley (23) and Jenkins (19 not out) took the score to 190 for 7 from 44.2 overs before skipper Garvey gave a sporting declaration.
In reply Recs were soon amongst the wickets reducing the visitors to 27 for 2 but some poor fielding and bowling allowed Trinity to recover to 111 before the next wicket fell. With plenty of overs left the Trinity batsmen played sensibly and passed Recs total reaching 191 for 4 from 42 overs to inflict only the second defeat of the season for Recs. Pick of the bowling was Rehman (2 for 53 from 17 overs).
The 2nd XI made the journey across the border to Prestatyn who won the toss the early runs with a power innings of 57 which included 9 fours and 2 sixes before he was dismissed with the score on 115 for 4. Huyton then took over the reins and after scratching round early on he soon found form. He was out late in the innings for an excellent 77 as Recs declared on 230 for 7 from 45 overs.
In reply Dillon made the early breakthrough as Prestatyn were reduced to 27 for 2. The home side kept in the hunt reaching 96 for 4 before the spin partnership of Hughes and Knowles dealt them a devastating blow reducing them to 104 for 7. As Prestatyn shut up shop Hetherington was brought back in to the attack and dealt the killer blow as the home side were all out for 138 from 34.4 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Knowles (1 for 24 from 6), Hughes (2 for 29 from 9), Heatherington (2 for 25 from 8.4) and Dillon (4 for 36 from 8).
Next week Recs 1st XI travel to second placed Hightown in a top of the
