Rainhill did not seem to be in the game for the first hour. Moore really took the game to Rainhill and battled for every ball. A windy day made for a tricky game and Moore went ahead with own goal. Pearson equalised to even the scores. HT 1-1
Second half Moore started better and presured Rainhill and forcing errors another own goal a a good strike from Moore left Rainhill 3-1 down on 62 mins three subs Joyce,Bathgate and Lester by Rainhill manager Phil Kelly livened the game up for Rainhill and they began to dominate. Pearson scoring on the 85th minute. With extra time for injuries there were about 10 mins left and Rainhill pressured for the draw when Gannon who had sneaked in at the back was unable to convert a volley near the final whistle it was not to be.
A poor performance from Rainhill for 60 mins and if they have aspirations of defending their title they will have to change their attitude and ensure they are ready for ninety minutes if they want to retain their title. Full credit to Moore who looked a well organised team and wanted to win the game from the first whistle.
