Prescot Ladies 1st 6 Wigan 3rds 0
Prescot continue their undefeated run. For the third consecutive match, Prescot Ladies 1st team win with a score line of 6-0. In what was a spectacular team effort, Joanne Garvey claimed man of the match, not least for the use of her extendable ‘Go-GO Gadget Arms’ and the touch of class she brought to the game.
The first half saw an early goal from a fantastically organised Prescot set piece. A well struck free hit from Melanie Heaps finding a superb deflection from Gemma Moran straight into the roof of the net, the first of her hat trick. Anne Baxby’s amazing cross to the beautifully poised Jenny ‘The Post’ Burton brought Prescot their second goal. Gemma Moran scored her second (and least spectacular of all three goals) from a wonderfully placed pass from Sue Burton Prescot’s fourth goal was to be Jenny Burton’s second.
Having made one of the most spectacular runs of the first half, cutting in in a way only JB can, she placed the ball perfectly behind the keeper. But enough of the forwards: Both Joanne Garvey and Sarah Langely made saves off the line enabling Prescot to keep their clean sheet and at saw the close of the first half, leaving Prescot sitting pretty at 4-0.
The second half saw more Prescot team work, and whilst the goal tally was slightly lower, we cannot blame Anne Baxby too much, she only missed one open goal!! Though she redeemed herself, bringing the first goal of the second half.
Yet again, this was the result of a well organised, planned and beautifully executed set piece, Anne picking up the rebound from the keeper. Goal No. 6 came from Gemma Moran. After a wonderful 16 yard hit from Skipper Sarah Langley, the ball was passed to Gemma, who in the post match interview said: “I picked the ball up just after the halfway line, passed it through the legs of the first defender, ran another 10 yards with the ball on my strong side, threw my first dummy to the second defender, entered the D, with a repeat dummy, this time on the reverse side, I wellied it into the goal.” Save for Gemma’s goal, which was a great individual performance, it was a fantastic team effort! PS Amanda played too!
Ladies 2nds 1 Mossley Hill 2nds 1
Great result allowing the ladies first team to jump up to second place in Lancs Division one
Formby 4ths 3 Prescot Ladies 3rds 3
A superb away point for the ladies 3rds in their first league season.
Prescot men 1st team 1 Blackpool 1st 0
The most one sided one nil ever? Prescot dominated from start to finish with the blackpool keeper making a string of fine saves in the first half. During the second half blackpool reverted to 9 behind the ball and Prescot had several chances to gain the advantage.
Eventually a great run into the D by mike johno resulted in a foul and the resulting penalty corner was well worked allowing Chris Lomax to score after 63 minutes. Blackpool, obviously expecting a stroll in the park having beaten the prescot 'cup side' earlier in the season decided to head back up the M55 without taking advantage of the hosts hospitality!
Prescot 2nds - game cancelled
Prescot 3rds 2 Cheetham Hill 2nds 2
A great game at the Commonwealth games stadium in manchester saw the 3rds pick up a valuable poiny at Cheetham hill. With several youngsters making the trip a point was always going to be tough but the lads took on the challenge.
An early goal from Prescot was more than deserved and another couple of chances went begging before sloppy defending allowed Cheetham to equalise. The second half was ene to end with Beecham scoring a second and Cheetham again equalising to draw the game. The only down side was the ridiculous drive back to the 'local' for a pint...40 minutes away!!!
