Green thinking

With issues of the environment high on the international agenda, Knowsley Council and Knowsley Housing Trust are working with the borough’s youngest residents to encourage them to consider their impact on the world around them.

Knowsley schools are being encouraged to devote time in class to speak to children about green issues and help them understand the small changes they and their families can make to help the environment.

Art in transition at Kirkby gallery

Kirkby Gallery will welcome an exhibition of paintings from Liverpool artist Julie Jones later this month.

The exhibition, from 26th February – 13th May, is entitled ‘Transition’. It is an attempt by the artist to express memories of personal experiences, and to represent more vague images through layer, mark and texture in paint.

Residents influence change in Kirkby

Around 600 people that live or work in Kirkby turned out to have their say on the future of the town at an event last week.

The Kirkby is changing event, hosted by the North and South Kirkby Area Partnership Boards was a chance for anyone with an interest in the town to view and comment on all the regeneration initiatives underway.

Fraudsters have nowhere to hide

Fraud investigations in Knowsley have saved taxpayers almost £250,000 since April last year. During that time, 32 people have been prosecuted for fraudulently claiming money they were not entitled to.

Those found guilty have been forced to repay the money in full as well as facing other punishments including fines, community service, curfew orders and even the threat of jail.

Another poor grant settlement for fire service

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority has once again been awarded the lowest local Government grant settlement in the country.

The settlement for 2007/08 has given Merseyside a 2.7% grant increase. This compares with 2.8% for Greater Manchester, 3% for Tyne and Wear and 3.4% for South Yorkshire (other Metropolitan fire authorities). Our neighbouring fire service, Cheshire has received 4.4%.
