Prescot hockey club started their league campaign with a bruising encounter against a 'tough' cheshire outfit. With the team down to the bare eleven it was always going to be tough to get a result at this level. However, Prescot played very well and won most of the fifty fifty battles in midfield. The first half remained scoreless with the Alderley keeper pulling off two fine saves.
In the second half the pace began to tell on Prescot who dug deep to keep the Cheshire club at bay. In the final five minutes Prescot pushed on to try and snatch a late winner, and on the stroke of full time a controversial penalty corner saw captain Mike Johnson tap into an open goal. A great result for a depleted Prescot side. Next week Southport are the opposition.
Prescot Ladies 2 Kendal 6
The ladies have stepped up to a much tougher division but were well in contention at 2 - 2 at half time. However, the Cumbrians soon forged ahead against a much changed ladies firstteam. The ladies will look to bounce back next week.
Prescot 3rds 4 Didsbury Northern 0
Prescot had the luxury of leaving captain Neil Dyson on the bench as they bloodied several under 15s in this league match. The youngsters played superbly to help win several penalty corners which were dispatched by Danny Gill (2) and Sean Taylor. In the second half the team eased off slightly with multiple rotations but a fourth goal was added by veteran Phil Samosa.
Next week all six teams return to league action.
