Knowsley Enterprise Academy and Young Enterprise have hit a key
milestone, engaging record numbers of Knowsley students in the renowned
Company Programme: 28 teams of year 10 students from all of the schools
across the borough have registered their own enterprise.
Team sizes vary from six to twelve pupils, in this year’s competition Products range from web and furniture design through to manufacturing bird boxes and worm farms.
The programme runs from September to April and culminates in a series of final presentation evenings at local, regional and national levels celebrating and rewarding the innovation, teamwork and entrepreneurship of those involved. National winners also have the opportunity to compete at an international level.
Apart from student involvement, the programme also allows business people to make a contribution and enhance the employability skills of those young people involved whilst also enhancing their own personal and professional development.
The company programme is one of the most innovative programmes that encourages young people to display their flair and imagination and in doing so learn new skills and understand how Businesses function. Many Business people currently involved have advised groups for number of years, and get a real buzz from bringing out latest talents in youngsters.
Sharon Hibbert volunteer Business Adviser from Lakeside upholstery said: “I have been a business mentor on the programme for 3 years. A business adviser’s role is thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. It’s about encouraging students to develop their own business skill and also about helping them discover their true potential, realise their ambitions and hopefully making the transition from school to employment a smooth one.”
The huge success of the current programme means that Knowsley Enterprise Academy and Young Enterprise now require additional volunteers to join the bank of business advisers.
