Cables' lack of match practice showed as the visitors won with ease.
Hednesford took the lead after one minute 56 seconds when a corner from the right found Chris Hanna who tapped home from close range.
Cables were on level terms after 27 minutes when a corner from the right found Karl Connolly who headed home.
But the score was only level for two minutes. Alan Nagington was clear through on goal, having beaten the goalkeeper, when Karl Bell brought him down in the penalty area. The ball crossed the line and the referee did his best to upset both sets of supporters: he gave the
goal, despite having blown the whistle before the ball crossed the line, and showed Bell the yellow card despite the offence clearly meritting a red.
After 40 minutes Ross Dyer shot the visitors into a 3-1 lead from the edge of the penalty area.
Cables were the better team for much of the second half and it was against the run of play when substitute David Brown received the ball from a cross after 61 minutes and made the score 4-1.
The game was only six seconds away from stoppage time when Eamonn Price scored for Cables, but this was not to be the last goal of the game.
With two minutes' stoppage time played, Anthony Maguire made the final score Cables 2 Hednesford 5.
