Prescot Cables gained a hard earned point in their Unibond Premier Division clash at Ashton United on New Year's Day. Prescot fell behind as early as the second minute when unmarked Ian Fitzpatrick fired Ashton ahead after Prescot's defence failed to clear a corner. Prescot then had a good shout for a penalty waved away as new signing Tommy Taylor's shot was clearly handled in the area by an Ashton defender.
Visiting keeper Richie Mottram kept Prescot in the game with two excellent saves from Ashton United corner kicks. On 30 minutes Prescot striker Eamonn Price was bundled over in the Ashton penalty area allowing penalty expert Tommy Moore to deservedly level the scores with a spot kick .
A minute into the second half a good move by Prescot Cables resulted in Ryan Wade hammering the visitors into the lead with a crisp finish from six yards. On 52 minutes the linesman awarded the home side a controversial penalty giving Ashton United's Billy McCartney to equalise from the spot .
Late pressure from Prescot almost produced a last gasp winner as Karl Connolly headed inches over the Ashton bar and Tom Moore's shot was scrambled off the Ashton line. Prescot Cables are next in Unibond League action on January 12th when they entertain Frickley Athletic at Valerie Park, kick off 3pm.
