After nearly three months of waiting Prescot secured a Unibond Premier League success – ironically against the same opposition that provided Cables with their last league win on 24 November 2007.
The Hope Street outfit had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock. An untidy free kick was resurrected by Mike O’Donnell who flicked the loose ball onto Eammon Price who took advantage of a flat-footed defence to blast home on 46 minutes.
Prescot continued to force the pace with Colin Flood’s free kick shot skimming the top of the bar after Price was pulled back.
Stamford was not totally out of the game. Captain Pritchard created an
opportunity for himself and neatly chipped keeper Hibbert. The ball
just eluded the crossbar.
Elusive wing man Kirk beat two Cables defenders and provided Tiday with a chance that was cleared off the Prescot goal line.
The points were secured in the 84th minute following a disastrous defensive clearance gifted debutant Liam Kennedy. He seemed to have squandered the opportunity with only the keeper to beat. He managed to locate an unmarked Price who chipped Samma and found the top corner.
Prescot travel to Kendal Town on Tuesday evening 26th February and then host league leaders Witton Albion at Valerie Park on Saturday afternoon 1st March.
