Letter from Stef Davies
Hi,
I'm writing to let you know about Halewood Tae Kwon-Do's recent success at the 2010 North Wales Championships, held in Deeside on Saturday 13th February.
Our students took part in various events, achieving a grand total of 22 medals - 8 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze.
Our junior students enjoyed outstanding success, with several students earning more than one medal. 8-year-old Joe Santangeli-Renshaw became North Wales Champion in two events, earning gold for both patterns and sparring. Ryan Annesley (10) won gold in patterns and silver in sparring; Maira Malik (11) won two silver medals for patterns and sparring; and Faye Clifton (8) won two bronze medals in patterns and sparring. Our junior students took more gold medals in various categories, with titles claimed by Max Cunnah (8) in green belt sparring; Josh Calland (11) in blue belt patterns.
Further medals were added to the club's haul by Connor Johnson, who achieved a silver in sparring; and his brother Nathan, who earned a bronze for sparring. White belt beginner Reece Crosby fought very well in his first ever tae kwon-do tournament to win his bronze medal for sparring. Our senior students found success in their own divisions, with two gold & silver medals claimed by Sian Tunstall and Leigh Yoxall. Also taking home bronze medals for sparring were Simon Clifton, Terry McDonald, Rob Tilleke and Stef Davies.
Overall it was a very successful day for the club, especially for our juniors and first-time competitors. Halewood students are now training hard in preparation for the next tournament, the English Championships in March; and then for the biggest tournament of the year, the World Championships in September.
Halewood Tae Kwon-Do club has classes in Halewood Leisure Centre and Arncliffe Sports & Community Centre.
