The group from Christ the King in Huyton have been learning how to enjoy their time together and improve relationships within the family.
The Fast course - Families and Schools Together – Includes the whole family and is aimed at helping the adults to parent more effectively and the children to become more independent. It also aims to enhance the supportive relationship between schools and families.
In weekly sessions, the families interact over meals and activities such as craft sessions. The first course is now complete and a graduation ceremony has been held to show the progress those taking part have made.
“Strong families make for better pupils,” said Knowsley’s executive director for Children and Families, Damian Allen.“In the Fast course we provide an opportunity for the parents and their children to learn a different way of interacting and to mix with the other families taking part.
“Families can often feel isolated from their neighbours and want to know more about how to help their own children as well as others in the same boat.“This course gives them the skills to do that.”
Christ the King is the first secondary school in Knowsley to run the Fast course for parents with children aged 11 to 13.It was pioneered in the borough at Nine Tree Primary School in Stockbridge Village.
Knowsley pupils celebrate FAST course success with Knowsley’s executive director of Children’s Services Damian Allen.
