Knowsley Housing Trust has taken court action against a man for breaching an Anti Social Behaviour Injunction.
KHT successfully applied for the ASBI against Roger Yates in June this year after Yates harassed one of its tenants and caused nuisance in the neighbourhood.
Yates, 46, from Prescot, is already serving a four-month sentence for assault against the same tenant and was handed an additional 28 weeks in prison for breaching the ASBI at St Helen’s County Court on Monday, October 18.
The ASBI, which runs until June 3, 2012, prevents him from entering the area where his victim lives, using or threatening violence against the victim or their family, visitors or neighbours or engaging in conduct causing or likely to cause a nuisance or annoyance to people living in the locality, including fighting, shouting or arguing.
Yates was given a jail sentence for assault on the victim in July and was released on September 29.
But after his release he continued to harass the victim, breaching the ASBI on several occasions. He was given his second jail sentence for assault on the victim on October 9.
Emma Roberts, Tenancy Enforcement and Litigation Manager at KHT, said: “This man was a total menace to the community.
“He subjected his victim to months of serious abuse and threatening behaviour, in addition to the disturbing activities the people living in the surrounding properties have had to witness.
“We could not have secured this sentence without the help of the community and KHT is committed to working with the community to make people accountable for their actions.
“This sentence shows that KHT will not tolerate this behaviour. By working with the community we will take action against anyone behaving in a threatening, alarming or distressing way towards KHT tenants or in KHT communities.”
