Plans which set out where future housing and business development may take place in Knowsley are being discussed with residents as part of a 10 week consultation exercise.
The proposals – based on feedback from residents – will form the basis of the Knowsley Local Development Framework (LDF) which will shape the way the borough develops up to 2027 and beyond.
This latest consultation will enable residents to share their views about the kind of development that may take place in their area. The Core Strategy Preferred Options Report outlines the key aims of the Local
- create attractive places for people to live, work and spend their leisure time;
- deliver several thousand new homes in Knowsley;
- create opportunities for new employment;
- support regeneration priorities;
- decide how our town centres and smaller shopping areas should be developed;
- improve transport links, including walking and cycling;
- make the best use of Knowsley's green spaces; and
- decide how we tackle climate change and resource management.
The proposals include changes to the green belt in some areas to enable the most sustainable locations to be chosen for longer term growth.
Cllr Dave Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, said: “Every household in Knowsley should by now have received a summary leaflet detailing the proposals which will be contained in the Local Development Framework core strategy.
“We would urge residents to take the time to look over this document as it could effect everyone who lives and works in Knowsley. People are encouraged to ask questions and make comments to help us set in place a blueprint for the next 16 years that will make Knowsley a better, more prosperous and more attractive place to live.”
The leaflet provides residents with a feedback form to make comments which will be considered by the council when drafting the final plan. Residents can also view the full Core Strategy Preferred Options report on the council’s website www.knowsley.gov.uk/LDF or at any of the council’s one stop shops or libraries.
A Facebook page has also been set up for residents who wish to discuss the proposals. Search Facebook for ‘Help Plan Knowsley’
