Parents are celebrating after completing a course aimed at helping them to strengthen their family bonds and links with the local community.
Thirteen parents, carers and grandparents attended the ‘Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities’ programme, run by Knowsley Council.
During the 13-week course, families learned how they can improve on their communication skills with one another, encourage self-esteem amongst family members and develop life skills as a family.
Those who completed the programme, which included families from across the borough, attended a celebration event where they were presented with certificates in recognition of their work and dedication.
The participants also had the opportunity to listen to a range of guest speakers throughout the course, including representatives from Family Group Conferencing and Parent Partnership.
“We wanted to create a programme that helped people strengthen their relationships within their families.” Said Kevin Meehan, Parenting Officer for Family First 11-18 Service.
“We also felt it was important to make families aware of the different community facilities and support available to them in their local area. As well as having access to specialist advice and guidance, taking part in various activities as a family can play a vital part in strengthening family relationships.”
Cllr Graham Wright, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said,
“The Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities Programme is a great initiative aimed at helping families grow stronger together.
“I’m sure those who attended got a lot out of the course, and that they will share their experiences of what they have learned with others.”
