Thousands of jobs will be available at a unique event to help the region’s young people find work.
The Big Event is a one of a kind recruitment fair organised by the Liverpool City Region’s six local authorities to tackle rising youth unemployment. It will bring together hundreds of employers for one day only, to promote their current job vacancies.
In April 2011 the Liverpool City Region’s business-led Employment and Skills Board called for a concerted effort by businesses in the region to create 10,000 apprenticeships for young people. The Big Event represents a big push by local authorities and local businesses to meet this ambitious target.
More than 220 companies will have thousands of jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities, in construction, hospitality, retail and more, available for 16-24 year olds who are looking for work.
Cllr Joe Anderson, Leader of Liverpool City Council said: “As youth unemployment reaches a record high and the number of young people out of work has increased, it is vital that the Liverpool City Region works in partnership to support young people to maximise the job opportunities available to them.
“Local authorities in the Liverpool City Region are committed to reducing youth unemployment which is why this event has been organised. Getting employers and young people together in the one place at the one time is a great way to tackle this issue.
“Partnership working is key to making this event a success for both employers and young people across the city region.”
Cllr Ron Round, Leader of Knowsley Council and Lead for Employment and Skills in the City Region, said: “We hear so much in the news about unemployed young people and how difficult it can be for them to find work. This event is a great opportunity for them to come along and meet employers, find out more about the job vacancies available and express an interest in those vacancies.
“We know that businesses value young people as they can make an important contribution to companies. For employers, this event will simplify their recruitment process and give them the chance to meet thousands of potential candidates in just one day.
“We’re confident that the event will be a success and as a result, many job offers will be made in the coming weeks.”
The Big Event will take place on Tuesday 7 February at Liverpool Echo Arena, 10am– 6pm. Young people interested need to contact their local Connexions Centre or Job Centre Plus to secure an invite.
The Big Event is supported by the European Social Fund and a number of key partner organisations which include Jobcentre Plus, Connexions, National Apprenticeship Service, Greater Merseyside Learning Provider Federation, MerseyTravel plus many more.
This program would be helpful for unemployed young lads, and sufferers of recession.
