The impact of April’s benefit changes on families in the Liverpool City Region will be discussed at an event for the professionals who work with them. With thousands of families expected to be affected, the briefing session has been organised by the Liverpool City Region Child Poverty and Life Chances Commission and Child Poverty Action Group, and will take place this Thursday (28 February) at Our Place in Huyton.
There are a number of significant reforms being introduced in April 2013, which will include changes to Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Tax Credits and Social Fund. Families who currently receive these benefits should seek advice on how these changes could affect them.
Frank Field MP, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Child Poverty and Life Chances Commission said “The Government is introducing a whole range of changes which will cut families’ incomes and increase the risk of homelessness. They need to get the best quality advice and that is why we wanted to organise this briefing session. Child Poverty Action Group are the UK’s leading charity for child poverty issues, and we are pleased to be working with them on this.
Alison Garnham, Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group said “It is vital that families struggling to meet rising living costs, and the people who work with them, know how benefits are changing so they can understand the implications for family budgets and can claim their entitlements.
Helping families gain their correct entitlements to benefits could make a real difference to many children living in poverty. We're very pleased that the Liverpool City Region Child Poverty & Life Chances Commission is working with us in hosting this event for local groups”
