A Knowsley business park was transformed into a sporting venue at the weekend when it played host to a major Merseyside cycle race.
North Mersey Business Centre on Woodward Road in Kirkby was used as the base for Liverpool Mercury Dolan Cycling Club’s Frank Morgan Memorial Road Race, staged annually as a tribute to a former member killed in a cycling accident.
80 junior and senior riders took part in the 54-mile race which consisted of 20 laps of a circuit around local roads.
Using the Business Centre as the race HQ provided competitors with secure car parking, changing rooms and facilities for pre and post-race refreshments.
North Mersey Business Centre - home to more than 100 companies - is run by Knowsley Development Trust as a social enterprise.
All profits from the development are ploughed back into economic development, regeneration and community projects in the area.
Paul Paterson, Secretary of Liverpool Mercury Dolan Cycling Club which was founded in 1949, said: “It’s now been more than 20 years since we lost Frank Morgan in a tragic road accident, but this annual race is a great way to keep his memory alive.
“Knowsley Development Trust have always been brilliant in making their excellent facilities available to us to ensure the race runs as smoothly as possible. We really appreciate all their support.”
Development Trust Chief Executive, Steve Dumbell, added: “We’ve had links with Liverpool Mercury for many years and we’re always delighted to welcome them back to North Mersey Business Centre.
“Our association with the club reflects the central remit of our organisation which is to support the local community we serve in any way we can.”
As well as North Mersey Business Centre the Development Trust also runs community transport company Your Travel Boroughwide and Knowsley Enterprise Academy which provides business-related activities for local young people.
