The newest arrival is the first Kiang to be born at Knowsley Safari and can now be seen exploring his habitat with mum Soba and dad Alistair.
Indigenous to China, the Kiang is the largest wild ass species in the world, and can be recognised by their sleek, reddish brown summer coats.
Belinda Barclay, Animal Manager at Knowsley Safari, comments:
“Mum and foal are doing incredibly well and he is becoming much steadier on his feet. Although he is still staying close to his mum, he is starting to gain in confidence exploring the habitat, and following in the rest of the herd’s footsteps.”
